General Terms and Conditions
1. Applicability
The following terms and conditions shall form the contract between the Advanced Study Centre and course participants. The terms and conditions are valid for all programmes and courses that are organised in collaboration with the Advanced Study Centre. The only exceptions are pro-grammes and courses which have their own published general terms and conditions.
2. Conclusion of Contracts
Contracts shall commence with enrolment for courses and programmes in writing (on paper or in electronic form). Fees are payable by the due date stated. Applications by word of mouth are con-sidered provisional.
3. Enrolment
a) Enrolment, procedure, places, selection of participants
Enrolments can be made in writing by letter, our enrolment forms or cards, or online by contact-ing us by email via our homepage. Applicants will receive written confirmation of their enrol-ments. Normally, only a limited number of places is available on each course. Enrolments are considered in order of their receipt.
In the case of extensive programmes and specific courses, particular entry requirements can apply and enrolments will be reviewed accordingly. Requirements and selection criteria are defined in the course regulations and guidelines. Through their enrolment, applicants accept the general terms and conditions, the course regulations and the information stated in the guidelines or course description.
(b) Insufficient enrolment
We reserve the right to cancel programmes and courses subject to insufficient enrolment. If so, we will inform all prospective participants following the closing date for enrolment.
4. Cancellation
(a) Courses and modules with fees up to CHF 1’000.-
Cancellations made prior to the closing date for enrolment will not be subject to any charge. Where a cancellation is made after the closing date for enrolment, the full applicable fee will be charged. Course fees already paid will not be refunded. This regulation will not apply where a replacement can be found for the original applicant. In this case, an administrative fee of CHF 50.- will be charged.
(b) Programmes, courses and modules with fees exceeding CHF 1’000.-
Cancellations made prior to the closing date for enrolment will not be subject to any charge. Where a cancellation is made after the closing date for enrolment, the full applicable fee for the courses or modules will be charged, respectively the first part of the fee for Master of Advanced Studies- or University Professional / Diploma of Advanced Studies-programmes. Course fees already paid will not be refunded. This regulation will not apply where a replacement can be found for the original applicant. In this case, an administrative fee of 4% of the total course fees due will be charged; a minimum of CHF 50.- will apply.
5. Cancellation Insurance
Persons enrolling for courses may take out cancellation insurance with an insurance provider. The premium amounts to approx. 4% of the course fees. Please contact the Advanced Study Centre’s office for details.
6. Withdrawal
Should participants withdraw from a programme, a course or a module or discontinue participa-tion, no discount on the course fees will be granted, nor will any share of the course fees be re-funded.
7. Invoicing and Payment of Fees
Unless stated otherwise, invoices will be made out in Swiss Francs. Persons enrolled will receive invoices together with confirmation of enrolment or subsequent to the closing date for enrolment. Normally, only one address should be used for all correspondence and invoicing. Unless stated otherwise, fees are payable within thirty days. All payments must be made with the received pay-in-slip to the following account. Please quote the name of the programme, course or module.

8. Late payment
In case of late payment, the Advanced Study Centre reserves the right to demand compensation for the damage caused by delay.
9. Liability
The Advanced Study Centre shall be liable for the correct delivery of the programmes, courses and modules on offer in accordance with the standards of the University of Basel. The Advanced Study Centre shall not be liable should a programme, a course or a module fail to meet a partici-pant’s expectations. Participants are liable to pay the full course fees applicable regardless of their personal assessment of course contents and teaching methods.
